This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application (the “App”). By using our App, you agree to the terms of this Privacy Policy.

If you do not agree with any part of this policy, please discontinue use of our services.

1. Contact Information

For any questions or concerns regarding this Privacy Policy or our data practices, please contact us:

2. Your Information

2.1 Information We Collect

We collect the following types of information to facilitate playdate arrangements and improve user experience:

About Parents/Caregivers:

  • Personal Information: Name, email address, and other contact details provided during registration.
  • Profile Information: Preferences, interests, and other details shared within user profiles.
  • Chat Content: Text-based communications between parents, analyzed by AI for generating playdate activity suggestions.
  • Device Information: IP address, operating system, browser type, and usage patterns.

About Children:

Personal Information: Name, age, and preferences shared by parents to facilitate playdate arrangements.
Activity Data: Information related to children’s interests and play preferences provided by parents.

2.2 Information you Choose to Share with Other Parents

To help parents recognize each other and arrange playdates, certain information you add to the App may be visible to other verified parents at your school and to parents you choose to add as friends. This may include your name, your parental role (such as “Mother” or “Father”), your child’s name as you entered it, your profile photo, and your verified phone number.
You agree to this visibility when you create your account in the App.
You can remove this information at any time by deleting your account.
This information is never shown to other schools, never made public, and never sold.

3. Use of Information

We use the collected information to:

  • Provide and improve our services, including personalized playdate activity suggestions.
  • Analyze chat content using AI to recommend tailored activities based on parents’ discussions.
  • Generate AI-driven questions to assist parents in planning playdates effectively.
  • Communicate with users, send notifications, and respond to inquiries.
  • Comply with legal requirements and ensure the safety and security of our services.

Information Shown to Your School Community
We use your information to help you connect with other parents at your child’s school. This includes showing your name, parental role, child’s name, profile photo, and phone number to other verified parents at your school and to parents you add as friends. This visibility is based on the permission you give during signup, and you can withdraw that permission at any time by deleting your account.

4. AI Processing of Chat Content

To provide personalized playdate suggestions, we utilize artificial intelligence (AI) to analyze user-generated chat content and inputs.

How AI Is Used:

  • Chat histories are temporarily analyzed to identify preferences, interests, and activities for recommendations.
  • AI-generated questions may be provided to help parents gather more information for playdate planning.

Data Retention for AI Processing:

  • Chat data is processed on a temporary basis and not retained beyond the duration necessary for analysis, up to six months.
  • No images or videos are stored for purposes beyond immediate service delivery.

5. Verifiable Parental Consent (For Children Under 13)

We comply with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) for processing data about children under 13.

How We Obtain Parental Consent:

Before collecting or using information about children, we require parents to:

  • Read and agree to a child-specific privacy disclosure.
  • Verify their identity through the following method:
    • By linking their account to their personal mobile phone using a one-time password (OTP).

Parents may revoke consent or request data deletion at any time by contacting support@classmateplaydate.com.

6. Your Consent to Show Information to Other Parents

When you sign up, you are asked to agree that your name, your children’s names, your parental role, your profile photo, and your verified phone number may be visible to other verified parents in your school community and to parents you choose to add as friends.
This makes it easier for parents to know who they are speaking with and to coordinate playdates.
You may withdraw this consent at any time by deleting your account.
When you do, your information is removed from view for all other parents.

7. Data Sharing and Disclosure

We do not sell your personal information or display advertisements. Data may be shared outside of the app under the following limited circumstances:

Service Providers

We use third-party providers (e.g., the AI platform Microsoft Azure OpenAI Service and APIs such as Twilio) to process chat content and deliver our services. We use Google Perspective API and manual review to review messages that have been reported as objectionable. These providers are contractually obligated to safeguard your data.

Legal Compliance

We may disclose data when required by law or to respond to valid legal requests.

8. Data Security

We implement strong security measures to protect your personal information, including:

  • Data encryption during transmission and storage.
  • Anonymization or pseudonymization of chat content for AI processing.
  • Strict access controls and regular security audits.

While we strive to secure your data, no system is entirely foolproof. Please use the App responsibly.

9. Data Retention

We retain personal information only for as long as necessary to provide our services or comply with legal obligations. Chat content processed by AI is stored temporarily and deleted once analysis is complete. Parents can request deletion of their own or their child’s data at any time.

If you delete your account, all personal information—including your name, parental role, child information, profile photo, and phone number—is removed from our active systems. Backup copies are deleted as part of our standard secure deletion schedule.

10. Your Rights

No matter where you live, you have the right to:

  • Know what personal information we collect and how we use it.
  • Access the information we hold about you or your child.
  • Correct your information directly in the App.
  • Delete your personal information at any time by deleting your account.
  • Withdraw your consent to share information with other parents by deleting your account.
  • Ask for a copy of your information in a portable format.
  • Limit or object to certain uses of your information where applicable.
  • We will never sell your personal information.

To use these rights, you may either adjust your information directly in the App or email us at support@classmateplaydate.com. We will reply within the time required by applicable law, usually within 30 days.

11. Children’s Privacy

The App is designed for use by parents and caregivers, not for direct use by children. We collect limited information about children solely for facilitating playdates and only with verifiable parental consent.

If we become aware of unauthorized collection of data from a child under 13, we will delete it immediately.

12. International Data Transfers

We store and process your information on secure servers located in the United States and Germany. If you live outside these regions, your information may be transferred to one or both of these countries so we can provide the App to you.
When we transfer personal information from the United Kingdom, the European Union, or other regions with data protection laws, we use legally approved safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses and other measures designed to keep your information protected.
We take steps to help ensure your information remains secure and handled in accordance with this Privacy Policy, no matter where it is processed.

13. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or legal requirements. Updates will be posted within the App, and significant changes will be communicated via email.

14. Consent

By using the App, you consent to this Privacy Policy and its terms. Parental consent is required before collecting or using data about children under 13.

15. SMS Messaging and Verification

We collect your mobile phone number to send SMS messages for account verification and school activation purposes. These messages are sent only when initiated by you during registration, login, or school activation.

16. Use of Third-Party Services (Twilio)

We use third-party service providers such as Twilio to deliver SMS messages. Your phone number and message content may be transmitted to these services solely to enable delivery of the messages. These services are contractually required to handle your information in accordance with data protection laws.

17. Geographic Scope

We send SMS messages to users located in the United States, Canada, Australia, the United Kingdom, and Ireland. If you are located in the United Kingdom or European Economic Area, we process your information in accordance with GDPR and other applicable laws.

18. Opt-Out and Data Control

If you no longer wish to receive SMS messages, you may delete your account or contact us at support@classmateplaydate.com. We do not send promotional SMS messages.

19. Australia

If you are located in Australia, your information is handled in accordance with the Australian Privacy Act 1988 and the Spam Act 2003. We do not send marketing messages, and all SMS messages are strictly transactional and user-initiated.

20. Email Invitations

If you choose to send a birthday party invitation or similar message via email through our app, you are responsible for ensuring that the recipient has consented to receive such communication. We may retain the email addresses of your recipients for your convenient future reuse.
